This year’s Tax Workshop will be held on December 12th and 13th at Wellesley College. Robert Weinerman, the Director of Training for Iron Bridge Resources, will provide a two-day review of Federal tax forms. There is an option of attending Day 1, Day 2 or both. This is the registration for Day 1 – please see below for the description of what Day 1 will entail.
Day 1 – Verification, Conflicting Information, and Tax Returns This full day, federal methodology focused program will look at how the tax returns and tax return transcripts are used in verification and the identification and resolution of conflicting information. Topics will include verification of tax filers and non-filers, common conflicting information issues including asset related issues, rollovers, Roth conversions, and unusual circumstances. All new guidance for 2018-2019 will be covered, including a look at the 1040X, the transcripts that are available from people who have amended their tax returns, and the implications of changes to the IRS Data Retrieval Tool implemented this year.
Day 2 – Real Estate and Business Tax Returns This full day program will focus on the way colleges can review personal and business tax returns to get a more complete picture of the family’s ability to pay for college. The program will start with a general overview of business and real estate income and expenses, and look at how an analysis of these expenses in the prior prior year can be used to predict the business’s potential cash flow in the academic year. The business tax returns (Schedule C, Form 1065 (partnerships), Form 1120S (S corporations), Form 1120 (C corporations), Schedule K-1 (Form 1065), Schedule K-1 (Form 1120S), and Schedule E will be covered. The Day 2 curriculum is independent on the Day 1 curriculum; please feel free to register for Day 2 even if you do not choose to attend Day 1.
